Polestar is opening the performance tap on the Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine, making it the most powerful Volvo model ever.
Thanks to Polestar Performance Optimization, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine is turned up to 421 horsepower and 501 lb-ft of torque, making it capable of running to 62 mph from a standstill in 5.5 seconds. That is a jump of 21 hp and about 28 lb-ft.
Power still comes from a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to two electric motors. Best of all, the all-electric range of about 27 miles is unchanged on this more powerful model.
Besides more power, Polestar also improves five key areas: throttle response, speed and precision, overall engine performance and the addition of a new gearshift hold feature which sticks in the selected gear during high lateral-g cornering. This keeps the XC90 flat and settled through corners, not upsetting its balance with a mid-corner shift.
The improved overall engine performance means that more power is available in the engine’s mid-range revs.
“Just a week after the introduction of the S90 and V90 optimization, we move forward by launching our optimization for the exciting and technically advanced XC90 T8 Twin Engine. This gives customers who want a new level of driving pleasure with their XC90 an easily accessible and attractive performance increase,” said Niels Möller, CEO of Polestar.
Volvo didn’t announced pricing for the XC90 T8 optimization, though the package won’t be available in the U.S. until October of this year.
